| Leaders are the Focus of New DVD in the Biometric Awareness Series
There is no substitute for the real thing, and that is why the creators of the fourth DVD in the Biometric Awareness Series went right to the source. Featuring testimonials from Service personnel with first-hand experience both using and helping others to use biometric technology, “Unmasking the Enemy: Leaders Employing Biometrics” is a collaborative effort by U.S. Army G-2 and the Biometrics Task Force to involve leaders more proactively in the total biometric process.
Featuring LTG James D. Thurman, Deputy Chief of Staff, G-3/5/7, the emphasis of DVD 4 is to educate leaders about the latest biometric technology and how it can be used to support mission objectives so that these same leaders will ensure that their troops get biometrics training—preferably before deploying. The video is due out in late October and is dedicated to Maj. Alan Rogers.

The first three DVDs in the series focus on operator basics and the importance of data quality:
(DVD1) high-level technique for collections;
(DVD2) biometric data and the importance of quality collection; (DVD3) building and using a comprehensive biometric database.
This fourth DVD is directed to leaders in tone and message. Giving personal input are Navy
CAPT John Boyd and CDR Jon Lazar, Army LTC Charles Grinnell, and Marine Corps Maj. William Coffey, Maj. Timothy O'Neill, and SGM Robert Haemmerle. According to Lazar, “Leaders are faced with a lot of new ideas and training requirements that compete for their attention, but they’re of little value if they don’t contribute to accomplishing the unit’s mission. The personal experiences in this video will help leaders understand how biometrics can make a difference for them.”
When complete, approximately 3,000 copies of DVD 4 will be distributed throughout the Department of Defense, bringing to 10,000 the number of videos in the series distributed worldwide. Many organizations use the series to satisfy biometrics awareness training needs and/or as part of the introduction within system/process training classes, according to one of the integral members of the BTF production team, Betsy Myers.
