Director's Message

As we welcome spring, I am pleased to announce that the Table of Distribution and Allowances for the Biometrics Task Force has been signed.  I applaud the hard work of our staff to reach this milestone, which is featured in this issue’s lead story.  Together with PM Biometrics, the technology we support is well on its way to becoming an enduring capability, as you can read in the PM Corner.

This second issue of The Biometric Scan also brings highlights from our recent outreach conference, the Advanced Planning Briefing for Industry, where the Broad Agency Announcement was discussed.  Results from our smaller-scale Biometric Technology Demonstration are outlined in the Fielding Questions section and shows how the Department of Defense is partnering with industry to develop optimal technology solutions.

Not only is the future of biometrics multi-modal, it is multi-Service.  You can see this in our office and when you meet the new Deputy Director, Navy Captain Mike Lilienthal.  Finally, we bring news from one of our latest research projects, the BAT and HIIDE Latent Matching Capability, with preliminary results on this expanded technology.

As always, we welcome your comments and appreciate your readership,

Dr. Myra S. Gray, SES
Director, Biometrics Task Force
