Welcome to the fourth issue of the Biometric Bulletin. Our lead story highlights remarks from
Assistant Secretary of Defense for Homeland Defense, the Honorable Paul McHale, one of the
Department?s leading supporters of biometric technologies. Secretary McHale recently visited
the BMO to personally thank the staff for their dedicated efforts in establishing the DoD
Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS) as an invaluable tool in the Global War on
Terrorism. He especially praised the technical and operational support of the Biometrics Fusion
Center. To showcase ABIS success, we?ve included a short video in the Tech Spotlight.
Also featured in this issue is a snapshot of the CIO/G-6 reorganization and how it affects the
BMO. The BMO now falls under the Chief Integration Officer, MG Conrad Ponder, who reminds us, ?We can wake up each morning and know we are an integral help to our men and women on the
frontlines. What better work is there?? We include insights from MG Ponder, drawing on his
extensive Army and private sector experience.
In April, MG Ponder visited the BFC to personally award Mike Logsdon with the Bronze Star
Medal for his service in Iraq. I hope as you read this edition, you will gain an appreciation
for the people and the work of DoD Biometrics.
