Biometrics Features Significantly in FPED-V Trade Show

Greg Johnson (l) explains the latest DoD Biometrics equipment to interested guests.

DoD Biometrics was one of more than 550 organizations who took part in the three-day Force Protection Equipment Demonstration Five at Quantico, VA April 26-28. FPED V provides leaders and decision-makers from DoD, federal departments and agencies, and selected state and local law enforcement and corrections agencies the opportunity to observe and become familiar with force protection equipment of all types.

There were many force protection products that featured biometrics or used biometrics as an integral part of the product. Fingerprint systems were displayed for identification and network access.

Fingerprint, facial recognition, iris and hand geometry systems were shown for physical access applications.

DoD Biometrics showcased a prototype fingerprint collection system for use in Maritime Interception Operations. Participation at FPED allows DoD Biometrics to interact with other government agencies and force protection vendors that are not usually present at biometrics or information technology events.

Scanning fake fingerprint
Teresa Wu demonstrates the Sagem Morpho biometric terminal’s ability to detect a silicone fingerprint. A fake finger detection mechanism denies her access.
